2-3 weeks: that’s how long the Cubs will be without Carlos Zambrano, who on Monday was placed on the 15 day DL with a strained hamstring. The injury was suffered in Sunday’s win over the Marlins when, in the bottom of the 5th, Carlos laid a bunt down and busted it to first to get a basehit. It was obvious pretty quickly that something was wrong with Z – still, the pitcher tried to stay in the game. The futility of this effort became apparent, however, as soon as Zambrano tried to get a lead off first. He gave the “cut” gesture to the dugout, at which point Lou Piniella emerged to remove him from the game. Our hope at that point was that the injury wouldn’t prove serious, but alas, it has. The Cubs will now call someone up from the minors to take Zambrano’s place in the rotation. His next start was to be on Friday against the Brewers.
All I can say is: Plucking bell!!!
