Outstanding.

In what was probably the most heartbreaking piece of news since the departure of Tony Campana (pictured together), the only Cubs fan left in contention for the MLB Fan Cave was not selected.

Katie Cernek, friend of the site and all around awesome-possum broke the news via twitter today:

I hate to bring bad news, but I didn’t get picked for the fancave. Thanks for all your support, you guys. You’re awesome and I love you.

— katie cernek (@katiecernek) March 13, 2013

Most of the time, this is barely news. In fact as Cubs fans, you’d think we’d be used to falling short of our goals every once in a while but Katie is such a nice person, I’m shocked she’s not on the ballot to become the next pope. It would have been super bad ass to have a friend inside the Fan Cave to bring us all the coolest stories and photos.

It’s upsetting news as many of you readers helped Katie reach the final 30 but she seems to be taking the loss well:

Annnd I’m assuming that this is how normal people feel when they get dumped. #icecream #pie #oreos #duckdynasty

— katie cernek (@katiecernek) March 13, 2013

Don’t worry Katie. You’re still a winner in our eyes as you were the ambassador for Cubs fans worldwide, even if just for a short period of time. You represented us with dignity, honor, and a little bit of sass. If it’s any reconciliation, you can join the Cubbies Crib Fan Cave anytime.

I know she would want to thank each and every one of you who voted personally if she could.

She later stalked Tony for an autograph…. The full story can be heard on the second episode of Climbing The Ivy

You may remember Katie Cernek, who was a special guest on the Climbing The Ivy podcast 2 weeks ago, is campaigning to become part of the MLB FanCave for the 2013 season. Why is Katie so special? She’s the only Cubs fan to make the finalists this season.

We asked you to vote for Katie as she’s a good friend of the site and you stepped your game up big time: Katie has made the top 30.

She’s now going to be whisked away to Arizona for spring training and an audition to be put in the MLB FanCave this season. You’ve done well readers, and I know Katie is grateful for your support. There’s even proof!

A BIG thanks to the @denny__andrew and the guys at @cubbiescrib for being the first to write about my TOP 52 selection!

Apparently I get to be “the” Andrew Denny, and that has nothing to do with a typo at all. Babes dig baseball nerds right?

I had a chance to speak with Katie briefly today after the announcement was made and she wanted me to pass her personal thanks along to all the readers who voted. She is elated at the opportunity.

Stay tuned as she’s promised me an exclusive interview, so we’ll see how that turns out. I’m hoping it can be live from spring training, but we’ll cross that bridge when the time comes.

Give yourself a big pat on the back if you voted for Katie. You helped make a girl’s dreams come true today.
