While many believed that 2017 would be the end of the line for John Lackey, that might not be the case. If he decides to keep pitching will the Cubs be interested?

Chicago CubsJohn Lackey has been thinking about his future, and it may go beyond the 2017 season. Lackey isn’t the pitcher he was in 2007 when he finished third in the American League Cy Young vote, but he’s still an innings-eater that can get the job done. With the Cubs pitching situation as it heads into next season, he could be a viable option for the Cubs.

He said it jokingly in the dugout on Saturday, but it’s turned into a good question. The Cubs’ Joe Maddon brought up the idea of the current World Series champion playing the winner of the World Baseball Classic. There would be a lot of red tape to go through, but it’s not a terrible idea from the man who loves to think outside the box.

Cubs top prospect Eloy Jimenez was sent for an MRI and a CT scan for his sore shoulder. The shoulder may have been slowly building in pain, but an errant throw on Tuesday may have put him over the edge in pain. The Cubs are hopeful he’ll be fine but are awaiting results from the MRI before making further comment.
