The Chicago Cubs offense returned to back Jake Arrieta who won again as the Cubs defeated the Giants 8-1. Unfortunately, Jason Heyward left the game after making a spectacular catch in the home half of the first on a Denard Span fly ball.

There were two things happening at AT&T Park last night we’ve seen before. The first was another dominant performance by the Chicago Cubs’ Jake Arrieta as he held the San Francisco Giants to just  one run over seven innings. The other was a circle of players and coaches around an injured outfielder. The Cubs won 8-1, but the injury to Jason Heyward made things difficult to enjoy as his injury left a cloud over the win.

Denard Span lead off the bottom of the first with a long drive into the right field gap, Heyward tracked it down, making a diving play right in front of the wall. With no time to brace himself before making the play he fell awkwardly as his momentum carried him into the wall. His right torso/abdomen are sore and he will have an MRI today to find out the severity.

The offense found it’s stroke once again as Kris Bryant hit a three-run home run and Ben Zobrist and Jorge Soler added back-to-back shots in the eight inning to help support Arrieta’s eight win, improving him to 8-0 with a 1.29 ERA.

With the Cardinals trailing the Nationals in the ninth, Mike Matheny called on infielder Ruben Tejada to pitch. The results? Mixed at best, but it’s an unenviable task being called on for that situation.
