Cubs fall again to Bucs, look to Arrieta in finale to stop the bleeding

The Chicago Cubs have celebrated the clinching of a playoff spot, unfortunately, they haven’t had the chance to do it following a victory. The Pittsburgh Pirates shut the Cubs down in a 4-0 contest behind Francisco Liriano who seems to have the Cubs number. They managed just four hits, two of those by Kris Bryant. Jake Arrieta will take the mound tonight against the Bucs A.J. Burnett as they look to stop the mini-losing-skid.

The Cubs may have to make some room in the trophy case following this season. Joe Maddon and Kris Bryant seem to be frontrunners for the Manager of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively. Jake Arrieta is making a strong case for the Cy Young while Anthony Rizzo should be in the MVP conversation. The Cubs are building a strong future, and now they might need to consider expanding the trophy case in these renovations.

Never trying to look too far ahead, but the Cardinals took another devastating blow as Carlos Martinez has been shut down for the rest of the season with a shoulder strain. While the injury isn’t serious and won’t need surgery, it will sideline him for the rest of this season–including the Cards postseason run. It’s another difficult injury to stomach for a team already battling so many injuries.

And if you haven’t seen it, go over and admire another home run thievery by Mike Trout. You can’t help but like the kid, and he is something special to watch.
