Chicago Cubs sneak in big news while Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup

After severe weather cancelled the opener of the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians game at Wrigley Field, attention turned to the “Madhouse on Madison” where the Blackhawks won their third championship in six years. Oh and by the way, Kyle Schwarber is coming up to DH for the next six days.

Wait…what?

The Cubs snuck out that little tidbit of information very stealthily during the Blackhawks game as it spread quickly on Twitter. With the Indians recently calling up Francisco Lindor and Giovanny Urshela, the Cubs didn’t want anyone to forget about their riches in the farm system. So no worries about where he plays for the next week, Schwarber’s bat is all he has to put on display.

Starlin Castro rapped back-to-back walk-off hits against the Reds, helping to shake off some of the critics–at least for the time being. Can he ride that clutch-hitting ability to stay in Chicago long-term? There are many questions surrounding his future at the position as well as in Chicago. But for now, Castro has put in his notice he won’t go quietly.

The clear-cut weakness for this Cubs’ team a little over a month ago was the bullpen. Now it’s currently a pillar of strength. Will it stay that way? Maybe not, which is why the team has added Rafael Soriano and continues to examine other options. But in the meantime, this collection of relievers has become one of the best bullpens in the league over the last month.
