Lake homers, nearly incites brawl in 7-3 loss

It started bad for the

Chicago Cubs

, and it never really got any better after that against the Miami Marlins.

Jon Lester

had his worst outing in over a month, and

Junior Lake

managed to create a near bench-clearing ball with a flip of the bat as the Cubs dropped the series with a 7-3 loss.

With the Cubs down 6-0, Lake took starter Dan Haren deep to left to cut it to 6-2. An exaggerated bat flip combined with a “shhh” gesture towards the Marlins bench created the brief benches-clearing incident. The moral of this story is when you’re down 6-0, don’t say anything. When you’re up 6-0, don’t say anything then either.

The Cubs named Kyle Schwarber the organization’s Player of the Month in May, as the young slugger hit .297 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs, while also taking 24 walks. While it’s clear Schwarber can hit, where he ends up in the field is still a mystery as he continues his work behind he plate.

Another Cub who had a solid May was that of Javier Baez. And with his bat starting to heat up, the Cubs have decided to get him some time at third base at Iowa. If Baez is able to work his way back, the Cubs would have a full infield, and Kris Bryant could slide out to left field to allow room for Baez.

The Mariners and Diamondbacks pulled off a big trade, as the M’s will get Mark Trumbo from the D-backs in the six-player deal. Welington Castillo, who the Cubs just sent over via trade will pack up and now head to Arizona. With Tuffy Gosewisch out, Beef may get his opportunity at the starting job there.
