Morning Marquee: Spring training nears, Cubs better than Sox?

The Chicago Cubs official first day to report to Spring Training is tomorrow, but several members have already made their way to Mesa to get started. When people start throwing around the World Series – legitimate or not – you can’t wait to get to work. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are just a few of the Cubs who have arrived early, eager to get the 2015 season started.

The Chicago Sun-Times released it’s projections for it’s two local teams, and predicts the Cubs one game better than the White Sox. That will of course ignite dispute, but both teams made big additions this off-season and should be much better on the field this year.

The Los Angeles Dodgers got some bad news before camp has even started. Kenley Jansen will miss 8-12 weeks following surgery on his foot to remove a growth from the bone in his left foot. The Dodgers have high expectations for 2015, but will be without their closer for the first month or so of the season.

While the Cubs aren’t sure who will claim the final spot in the rotation just yet, it’s not for the lack of depth. No less than four will be competing for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, including Travis Wood and Edwin Jackson. Newer Cubs like Jacob Turner and Felix Doubront will also get a look this spring.
