Morning Marquee: Alex Rodriguez to be Yankees DH

With the signing of Chase Headley, the biggest question became what to do with Alex Rodriguez? Brian Cashman has answered that by stating Rodriguez will no longer be an everyday fielder, and will see most time as a designated hitter. Rodriguez, aside from the PED suspension, has seen a steady decline in his productivity which made the decision easier for Yankees management.

Former Cubs lefty Wesley Wright signed a one-year deal with the defending American League East Orioles. Wright will join Brian Matusz and T.J. McFarland as left-handed options for Buck Showalter out of the Orioles bullpen. Wight has spent time with the Cubs, Astros and Rays prior to this deal with Baltimore.

The Dodgers designated reliever Brian Wilson for assignment after a disappointing 2014 season. Wilson, who was coming off his second Tommy John surgery when he was signed in 2013, had an impressive showing albeit in a small sample size. Last season after struggling as the set-up man, he was demoted to middle relief. The “beard is no longer feared”.

The Yankees re-signed Chris Capuano on a one-year deal to possibly help fill one of the open rotation spots. Capuano has served as the long reliever out of the Yankees bullpen, and the departure of Brandon McCarthy and unknown status of Hiroki Kuroda will likely give him that opportunity.
