Pregame Notes: Dodgers at Cubs, 12:05 pm CT; Lineups and more

The Chicago Cubs will finally catch a break on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They won’t have to face a potential Cy Young winner (Clayton Kershaw), or another who would be in the conversation (Zack Greinke) if not for the former.

The Cubs (68-86) actually fared very well against both Kershaw and Greinke, but the Cubs end of the pitching didn’t hold up as both ended in losses. This afternoon the Cubs will send Felix Doubront (2-1, 1.50) to the mound. Since coming over from Boston, Doubront has pitched well in his effort to make a case for next year’s rotation.

The Dodgers (88-66) will counter with Roberto Hernandez (2-3, 4.76). Hernandez got off to a great start in his Dodgers career, with three of his first four being quality start. Since then he’s cooled off, failing to go more than 4 1/3 innings in any of his last three outings.

The Cubs will likely be without Welington Castillo, who left yesterday’s game with a rib contusion.

All eight of the Cubs remaining games will be against teams in playoff contention. After this weekend series with the Dodgers, the Cubs have a three game set with the Cardinals, then another with the Brewers.

The game will be on Fox, as well as being carried on WGN 720 AM.
