On the down side of things, shortstop Starlin Castro, who was coming off a torrid pace in the month of August amidst a strong bounce back campaign in 2014, was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and is unlikely to return to the field this season. However, in other news, rookie right-hander Kyle Hendricks earned the National League Rookie of the Month honors for the month of August after going 4-0 and leading Chicago to wins in all four of his starts.
In other MLB news, the Nationals picked up a win in Los Angeles, the St. Louis Cardinals walked-off against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Seattle Mariners edged out a win against the struggling Oakland Athletics behind right-hander Felix Hernandez.
