Pregame Notes: Cubs look to play spoiler against Brewers

The Chicago Cubs may be in last place, but for the second series in a row, they’re right in the middle of a battle for a playoff spot. As the Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers jockey for a playoff spot, the Cubs (61-76) will again be trying to play spoiler against the Brewers (73-63) who fell into a first-place tie with the Cards.

Jacob Turner (0-1, 4.50) will get another turn as the Cubs try to see what they have in the pitcher they acquired from the Marlins. Turner lasted only 3 2/3 innings, but was on a strict pitch count as the Cubs try to stretch him out. Before Turner’s last outing, his most recent start was August 3.

The Brewers (73-63) dropped five in a row to fall back into the tie, and will turn to Jimmy Nelson (2-5, 4.10) to try to end the skid. Nelson has lasted less than six innings in his last two start, both resulting in losses.

Jorge Soler returns to the Cubs lineup and is making his Wrigley Field debut. However, Anthony Rizzo is once again out of the lineup with his stiff back. We’ll keep you posted with any updates on Rizzo, should there be any.

The game is a 1:20 pm CT first pitch. Here are the starting lineups for today’s game:
