Down on the Farm: Albert Almora walk-off double, Mike Olt HR

Mike Olt hit his fourth home run in his last five games, but the Iowa Cubs fell and Albert Almora hit a walk-off double for a Tennessee Smokies win while Boise was held hitless until the 10th in the Chicago Cubs minor-league action Wednesday.

Iowa Cubs
Las Vegas 51s (Mets) 6, Iowa 4

Chris Rusin allowed five runs on six hits over seven innings to take the loss. He struck out five and walked three.

Olt hit a lead off homer in the second for his sixth for Iowa this year and fourth in last five games. He was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Matt Szczur went 2-for-5 with an RBI and Josh Vitters 2-for-3 with a walk.

A win by the Omaha Storm Chasers puts Iowa in a tie for first-place.

Tennessee Smokies
Tennessee 6, Huntsville Stars (Brewers) 5

Pinch-hitter Albert Almora hit a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth to score Stephen Bruno, who reached on an error for the 6-5 win.

Bruno was 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Corey Black started on the mound and pitched five innings of three-hit ball, allowing one run. He struck out six and walked six.

Zack Cates relieved Black in the sixth and allowed four runs on three hits and two walks over just two-thirds of an inning. P.J. Francescon gave up one hit, struck out one, and walked one over 1 1/3 scoreless innings for his 10th win on the season.

Jae-Hoon Ha went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, Lars Anderson 2-for-3 with a double and walk while scoring once and knocking in one.

Daytona Cubs
Off Day

Kane County Cougars
Kane County 6, Quad Cities River Bandits (Astros) 3

Ben Carhart hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and was promoted to Daytona following the Cougars 6-3 win.

Starter Paul Blackburn allowed there runs on five hits, including a solo homer over four innings. Blackburn struck out two and walked one in the no-decision.

Michael Heesch retired nine straight batters, striking out four for his third win on the year. Francisco Carillo struck out three and walked none for a two-inning save.

Boise Hawks
Hillsboro Hops (Diamondbacks) 1, Boise 0 in 10 innings

Boise was in a pitchers duel with Hillsboro hitting a one-out single off Ryan Williams in the fifth for the only hit in the game in the first nine innings. Boise’s Corbin Hoffner allowed a hit and three walks in the bottom of the 10th for the 1-0 loss.

Starter Josh Conway struck out three and walked one over three hitless innings. Williams struck out six and walked none over four innings of one-hit ball.

James Farris pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one. David Bote broke up the Hops no-hitter in the 10th with a double for Boise’s only hit.
