The Chicago Cubs used their off day to make big news by calling up their number two prospect, infielder Javier Baez. He is also ranked the fifth overall prospect by MLBPipeline.com and joins the team as they begin a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Around the league: reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen will miss a month of play due to an oblique strain, after much speculation Matt Cain will have season-ending elbow surgery, and Brandon McCarthy stayed hot with his fourth straight win as the New York Yankees begin their climb into the playoff picture.
