Down on the Farm: Dan Straily first win; Javier Baez, Kris Bryant HRs

Dan Straily won his first game as a member of the Chicago Cubs organization and Kris Bryant and Javier Baez both homered for the Iowa Cubs while the rest of the Cubs minor league affiliates fell.

Iowa Cubs
Iowa 4, New Orleans Zephyrs (Marlins) 0

Baez hit two-run home run and Kris Bryant and Mike Olt added solo shots as Dan Straily shut down the Zephrys for six innings in first Iowa Cubs win and fifth in the Pacific Coast League.

Straily allowed four hits and a walk, striking out five. Arodys Vizcaino pitched two innings for the first time since August of 2011 and gave up one hit and two walks while striking out two.

Baez broke a scoreless tie in the fifth with his 21st homer on the season, he was 3-for-5 on the season. Bryant 35th homer of the year came in the seventh, he was 1-for-4 with a walk. Two batter later, Olt sent a line drive over the wall for his first Iowa homer of the season. Olt went 2-for-5.

Tennessee Smokies
Pensacola Blue Wahoos (Reds) 6, Tennessee 4

Smokies starter Felix Pena gave up back-to-back homers to lead off the fourth as the Smokies fell 6-4 to the Wahoos.

Pena allowed five runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one over just four innings.

Chrstian Villanueva broke up the Wahoos no-hit bid in the eighth with a single to left to spark five straight Smokies hits. Dustin Geiger went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in the inning.

Daytona Cubs
Bradenton Marauders (Pirates) 8, Daytona 0

Daytona committed two errors in the second to allow five unearned runs as Tayler Scott took the loss for the Cubs.

Scott allowed one earned runs on seven hits over five innings. He struck out four and walked none. Willson Contreras went 0-for-1 with four walks.

Kane County Cougars
Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Brewers) 7, Kane County 3

The Cougars staff was wild with Ben Wells walking five batters and hitting one, then Zak Hermans walked two more to take the loss.

Wells allowed three runs, two earned, on only two hits and struck out five over five and one-third innings. Hermans allowed four runs, three earned, on three hits over two and two-third innings. He struck out five.

Jeffrey Baez hit two doubles and went 2-for-4 and scored once.

Boise Hawks
Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays) 2, Boise 1

James Norwood made his professional debut and allowed two runs on four hits over three innings, but the Hawks offense left nine runners on to give Norwood the loss.

Norwood struck out two and walked none. Ryan Williams threw four scoreless innings in relief. He gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.

Danny Canela was 2-for-4 with a double while Charcer Burks and Jesse Hodgers were both ejected from the game.
