The Chicago Cubs’ top prospect, infielder Javier Baez, is being listed as day-to-day after being hit by a pitch on his wrist in the Iowa Cubs’ Sunday game.
Tests after the incident revealed no structural damage – good news for Cubs fans who are clamoring for some reason to be excited about the big league club and who are hoping to see the likes of Baez in Chicago this year.
Baez, 21, is hitting just .220 this season, but has been red-hot of late, hitting .294/.324/.471 over the course of his last ten contests. In his first season at the Triple-A level, the shortstop struggled out of the gates, but has also seen his power return as he has made needed adjustments throughout the season. In May, he hit eight of his nine doubles on the season, while also adding four home runs.
It is widely expected that Baez will be called up to the big league club at some point this season, but exactly when that move will take place remains widely speculative.
