Pregame Notes: Chicago Cubs look to take series from Brewers

facebooktwitterreddit

After returning the favor to the Milwaukee Brewers of a blowout with an 8-0 win, the Chicago Cubs hope to get Jeff Samardzija his second win of the season to take the series from the division leaders.

Samarzdija (1-4, 1.68) is coming off his first victory of the season against the San Francisco Giants. He’s very familiar with the Brewers, both as a starter and a reliever. In 21 appearances seven of them starts- he is 2-5 with a 3.58 earned run average. The 1.68 ERA he brings into today’s contest is the lowest for a Cubs starter entering June (min. 10 starts) since Rick Reuschel had a 1.60 ERA in 1973.

The Brewers will counter with Kyle Lohse (6-1, 2.92). Lohse is quietly off to a great start for the Brewers, but in his career has not had great success against the Cubs. He is 6-6 with a 5.08 ERA against the Cubs in his career.

The contest will be carried on WGN TV, and as always carried on radio by WGN 720.

Here are the starting lineups for today’s match-up.
