Chicago Cubs’ starter Jeff Samardzija earned his first win Monday with an 8-4 win over the San Francisco Giants.

Darwin Barney led the Cubs with two RBIs while six other Cubs knocked in a run, including Nate Schierholtz with a home run.

The Cubs will go for their first road series win since last September Tuesday night with Jake Arrieta (1-0, 2.33 ERA) on the mound, he will be opposed by Tim Hudson (4-2, 2.13 ERA).

Around the league: the Mets release Jose Valverde and fired hitting coach Dave Hudgens, the Red Sox snapped their 10-game losing streak, Brewers’ closer K-Rod blew a save for the Orioles came back for the win, and the Pirates reinstate Jason Grilli from the DL.
