The Cubs gave up four runs in the sixth and settle for a series split Sunday against the Padres after they announced the hiring of Manny Ramirez.

Jeff Samardzija (0-1, 1.46 ERA) will look for his first win against the San Fransisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series Monday and will be opposed by Yusmerio Petit.

Around the league: Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Josh Beckett threw his first career no-hitter against the Phillies, the Red Sox lost their 10th straight game and got into a scuffle with the Rays, and the Rangers dominated the Tigers and Miguel Cabrera exited the game early.
