The Chicago Cubs solved Masahiro Tanaka and handed the ace his first loss in 43 starts with a 6-1 win on a rainy Tuesday night at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs were the first team to face Tanaka twice and Mike Olt, John Baker, and Luis Valbuena benefited from it. Olt was 1-2 with three RBIs, Baker 2-3 with 1 RBI, and Valbuena was 3-4, including two doubles.

Jeff Samardzija (0-4, 1.62 ERA) will look for his first win and complete a two-game series sweep, he will be opposed by Chase Whitley (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who will be making just his second major league start.

Around the division: Carinalds’ Adam Wainwright pitched a one-hitter, shutout against the Diamondbacks, Brewers’ Yovani Gallardo injured himself while trying to field a ball in a 5-0 loss to the Braves, the Nationals’ snapped Johnny Cueto‘s win streak, and Pirates’ start Francisco Liriano remains winless after a 9-2 loss.
