The Chicago Cubs (10-13) will be taking on the Seattle Mariners (14-6) in Cactus League action this afternoon at Cubs Park in Mesa, Arizona. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. CT.

Taking the mound today for the Cubs will be Opening Day starter Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija’s (0-0, 6.39 ERA) last outing came against the Kansas City Royals on the 15th where he was only able to make it through three and two-third innings of work. This start happens to be his worst of the Spring, as he was charged with four earned runs off of seven hits. Two of those hits were home runs.

Starting opposite of Samardzija is right handed pitcher Erasmo Ramirez. Ramirez (2-0, 1.42 ERA) has been absolutely perfect so far this Spring. He’s made it through 12 and two-third innings of work, only giving up 11 hits and being charged with two earned runs. Those two earned runs that he was tagged with came against the Cincinnati Reds on March 3rd and the Colorado Rockies on the 14th.

Now here’s the starting lineup for the second place visiting Seattle Mariners:

Today’s game against the Mariners lineup will be a huge challenge for Samardzija. All eyes will be on him considering his name is still being tossed around the rumor mill.
