Chicago Cubs fail to capitalize on errors, fall to the Rockies 7-5

Jeff Samardzija struggled with command issues in a three-inning outing, allowing three runs on four hits, while also walking one and hitting a batter as the Chicago Cubs fell to the Colorado Rockies 7-5 Wednesday.

Cubs prospect Javier Baez connected for his second home run of the spring, followed by a George Kottaras solo shot to tie it at 3-3 in the sixth.

Chris Rusin again had some struggles, allowing three earned runs in his 2 2/3 innings – taking his second loss of the spring. Rockies starter Tyler Chatwood, who is in the mix for a rotation spot, ‘gave up one unearned run on only one hit while navigating around his teams three errors while on the mound.

Cubs roster hopeful Brett Jackson struck out twice in three at-bats, and is still hitless this spring.

Tomorrow the Cubs will take on the Cleveland Indians. Travis Wood looks to get his first action of the spring as his last scheduled outing was cancelled due to rain. Justin Masterson (0-0, 0.00) is slated to go for the Indians.
