Monday evening, Chicago Cubs catcher Welington Castillo was named Cub of the Year at CSN Chicago’s Sports Awards. Castillo hit .274 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in 2013 for the Cubs.

Around the Majors: free agent pitcher Tommy Hanson signed with the Texas Rangers, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed right-hander Brandon Lyon to a minor league deal, and the Washington Nationals avoided arbitration with a $5.875 deal with Tyler Clippard.
