The Cubs have signed Dayan Diaz as discovered by Brett over at Bleacher Nation. Diaz will receive a minor league deal with an invite to spring training.

Diaz has a very similar story to a lot of the recently acquired pitching by the Cubs. He’s had previous success in other leagues followed up by being injured. After his injury, he showed promise within the Houston Astros system dominating short and low-A ball.

The cubs continue to stockpile these low cost-high potential pitchers at all levels of their baseball operations. These are the types of moves that reflect Epstein’s “be competitive for years to come” mentality.
