Cubs vs White Sox

The Cubs beat their rivals today by a score of 5-1.

Travis Wood started the game and looked a little off. He had trouble with some ground balls and his stuff looked a little flat, but that is expected in Spring Training. The only concern was that he walked two to load the bases. Every pitcher will look better when they move from hot Arizona to brisk Chicago.

Randy Wells and Rodrigo Lopez followed Wood with good outings. Wells got out of the bases loaded jam that Wood got into. Lopez was perfect and Wells pitched very well in his couple of innings. When we look at the race for the starting rotation, I think we are as even as we were in the beginning of the spring.

Lendy Castillo threw a scoreless inning and Dae-Eun Rheestruck out the side.

The offense supported the pitchers more than enough for their studly outings. Marlon Byrd went deep, as did Steve Clevenger and Edgar Gonzalez. Bryan LaHair had another bad day, going 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts.

The Cubs sent 4 players to their minor league camp, most notably Trey McNutt.

The Cubs next game is Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers.
