The Cubs started their spring training off with a bang, as they clubbed out 16 hits and launched 5 home runs in a 9-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

Game Notes

To begin, I was very impressed with how Randy Wells looked on the mound. As he went 2 perfect innings striking out 2.
Tyler Colvin also showed that he is determined to make the team out of Camp, as he went 3-3 with 2 doubles and a home run. Lou said that Colvin will compete for a spot on the team, with his main competition going to be Sam Fuld.
Starlin Castro also looked very good at shortstop. As he made a couple of plays where he illustrated good range. And he showed off his good speed by hitting a triple.
And, newcomer Marlon Byrd looked good as he went 2-2 with a home run.
