Sandberg Suspended After Bumping Ump

As a player Ryne Sandberg was known – and sometimes criticized – for his lack of emotion.  That doesn’t seem to be a problem in his new career as a minor league manager, though, as evidenced by the three game suspension he has received for multiple ejections this season.

Who knew Ryne Sandberg would develop into the minor league version of Bobby Cox?  It’s true though:  Sandberg, the guy so composed he wouldn’t even dive for grounders, has been booted from six Southern League games this year, including a staggering three in the last seven days.  His final ejection came the other night when he got in an argument with an ump and bumped him.  Weirdly enough, that argument and ejection came in the 9th inning of a game Sandberg’s team the Tennessee Smokies won.

How off-the-rails must Sandberg be to get thrown out in the 9th inning of a win?  This is way beyond Lou Piniella crazy.  This is almost Joe Mikulik crazy.  Unless this is all just Sandberg’s way of proving he has the fire to be a major league skipper.  Piniella won’t be sticking around forever, after all.
