White Sox Could Land Jake Peavy

Posted by: danzinski

Jake Peavy was rumored all off-season to be on the Cubs‘ wishlist, but now it appears that other Chicago team could end up landing the Padres ace:

The San Diego Padres could be on the verge of dealing staff ace Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Padres personnel said Peavy met with manager Bud Black late Wednesday night to discuss the possibility, the newspaper reported.

Peavy declined comment after meeting with Black, the newspaper reported. Peavy has a full no-trade clause, so his approval would be neccesary for any deal to happen.

One of Peavy’s teammates said he believes Peavy respects the White Sox for pursuing a trade for him, but may have reservations about playing for White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, according to the report.

I didn’t realize Ozzie was a guy a lot of players had a problem with.  He seems to me like he would be fun to play for.  Maybe Peavy doesn’t like the idea of playing for a manager who will tell him to his face that he stinks.  Sounds like we might have a priss on our hands, a guy who needs lots of coddling.  Hate to break the news to Jake, but Lou Piniella isn’t exactly known for using kid gloves with players himself (ask Fukudome).  For the record, SI’s John Heyman just posted on Twitter that he thinks the Cubs and Brewers are still the top two on Peavy’s list.
